Featured Major
This month’s featured student is Elizabeth Huggins.
Elizabeth Huggins is a freshman from Grand Island, Nebraska. She graduated from Heartland Lutheran High School last spring and entered UNK this past fall as an English major (writing emphasis) with a minor in Creative Writing. She is in the Honors Program and was recently inducted into the Sigma Tau Delta honor society. She was hired by the Calvin T. Ryan Library as a Research Assistant for Collection Services.
My position in the library has been a great experience. David Arredondo, Collection Services Librarian, is leading a project that focuses on cataloging conspiracies theories and some problems with neutrality that catalogers face when sorting through such materials. So far, we've collected about a hundred articles that focus on these topics to give us many perspectives on what characteristics are generally found in popular conspiracy theories. We've researched a couple of well-known conspiracy theorists as well to help us understand the sources they typically cite, if they cite anything at all, and how they link unrelated events and figures together.
