⭐ Featured Major ⭐
This month’s featured student is Caitlin Armburst.
Born in Broken Bow, Nebraska, Caitlin graduated from Kearney High School and transferred to UNK after starting her degree elsewhere. She is an English major (literature track) with 2 minors: public history and creative writing. This past fall, Caitlin presented original scholarship at the Midwest Modern Language Association Conference and was inducted into the English honor society Sigma Tau Delta. She also works at the Calvin T. Ryan Library.
I transferred to UNK because here I can pursue both English and history together. My experience with my professors at UNK has been incredibly impactful on me. Dr. Annarose Steinke (English faculty) has been my mentor for both the Midwest Modern Language Association and my undergraduate research project. At the MMLA conference which was held in Milwaukee last November, I presented my paper, “Mrs Dalloway and the Women Who Enable the Patriarchy,” on a panel about feminism and literature. It was a rewarding experience, and I was fortunate to meet so many people and learn about different topics. I am furthering this paper for my undergraduate research project where I will be focusing on modernist women authors who used female characters to criticize women who perpetuate the patriarchy. Last year, I was also inducted into Sigma Tau Delta, International English Honor Society, and it has been rewarding as an English major. When I’m not in class, you can find me in the UNK library working in the archives and special collections department where I get to combine my love for books and history, thanks to Dr. Will Stoutamire’s (history faculty) guidance. I never would have imagined that I would be given the opportunities that I have received as a student at UNK, and I recommend for students to take full advantage of what UNK has to offer and to learn all they can from their professors while they’re here!
📚 Reading Circle Recommendation 📚
