On Monday, November 30, 2021 at 7 pm the Film Club is showing the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas at the World Theatre in downtown Kearney. A discussion about Hunter S. Thompson will follow immediately after the show.

Tuesday, February 1, 2022 is the deadline for submissions to a high school writing contest, the Nebraska Emerging Writer Contest, sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta along with the American Democracy Project, Phi Eta Sigma and the Writing Center. ⭐ Rachel Hollenbeck published an essay “Powerful Men: An Evaluation of Successful Rhetoric” in the latest issue of the UNK Undergraduate Research Journal (Mentor: Dr. Amanda Sladek). For information on submitting an essay, see HERE.
⭐ Caitlin Armbrust presented a paper, “Mrs. Dalloway and the Women Who Enable the Patriarchy” at the Undergraduate Research Symposium of the Midwest Modern Language Association Convention held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on 4 November 2021.

Featured Major
This month’s featured student is Marcela Sousek.
Marcela Sousek is a junior, originally from Ceresco, Nebraska, a small town north of Lincoln. Her major is English 7-12 Education; she plans to student teach in spring 2023. She participates in several extracurriculars on campus. Currently, she is a member of the Thompson Scholars Learning Community, the S.O. Young Athletes Program, and Kappa Delta Pi, an international honor society in education. She holds a leadership position as Historian/Social Media Chair for Phi Eta Sigma. You may see Marcela frequently around campus. She works as a Writing Tutor in the Learning Commons and as a Campus Visit Assistant with the Admissions Office. She is also a small-business owner:
When I am not busy with school and work, I focus on my photography business, Marcela S Photography. I have had the pleasure of doing graduation pictures, senior pictures, weddings, and newborn pictures, and am up for any other project that comes my way!
