Scholarship News
✨ This year’s recipients of the Harry H. Hoffman Scholarship are Selena Bloos, Jaden Dzingle, and Yanira Rodriquez.
✨ Selena Bloos, originally from North Carolina, is a sophomore who came to UNK most recently from Franklin, Nebraska. She is an English Language Arts Education 7-12 major with a minor in Spanish.
I am driving myself to become a bilingual English Language Arts teacher to encourage students of all backgrounds, whether a native speaker of English or not. I am also hoping to coach students in One Act and Speech as a high school teacher. I'm an independent person who takes pride in saying I've worked very hard for everything I have. Right now, I work full-time while a full-time student at UNK. To say that I have served tables and bartended my way through school and taken care of myself the whole ride towards my degree is an experience I want to share with my students, so that they know they can do anything they set their minds to. The road is very difficult, but anything is possible with strength and determination to get it done.
✨ Jaden Dzingle is a sophomore from Elba, Nebraska, majoring in English with an emphasis in writing. She also has two minors: Visual Communication & Design and Film Studies. At UNK, she is a member of the Film Club, a student organization that selects movies for free showings and discussion at the World Theatre.
✨ Yanira Rodriquez was born and raised in North Platte, Nebraska, and graduated from North Platte High School in 2020. She came to UNK on a Kearney Bound Scholarship which she was awarded when she was a freshman in high school. She is majoring in English Secondary Education Subject 7-12.
Using my scholarship, I enrolled in the teacher education program here at UNK to get my certification as an English teacher with a major in English Secondary Education Subject 7-12. When I get the time I try to participate in Secondary Educator’s Club (SEC), Women Are Problematic (WAP), and International Justice Mission (IJM) at UNK. Besides school and my extracurriculars, I am currently working three part-time jobs the majority of the week. I am currently employed at the Loper Spirit Shop on campus, Scooters coffee shop right next to Builders/Target here in Kearney, and Home Instead. When I am not busy, I try and find various opportunities to volunteer through S.O. Athletes.
Thank you to our donors for their generous investment in UNK students. Thanks as well to the University of Nebraska Foundation. To learn about last year’s Hoffman Scholarship recipients, see HERE.
