Students with high GPAs are recognized each semester with a place on the university’s Dean’s List; some students also have the opportunity to join honor societies on campus, like Mortar Board, or ones associated with their academic major that are named using Greek letters. High achieving students in Political Science are invited to join Pi Sigma Alpha; students in History are invited to join Phi Alpha Theta; students in Business join Beta Gamma Sigma.
English majors who meet certain GPA and credit hour requirements receive invitations to join the international honor society Sigma Tau Delta.
Sigma Tau Delta is a national English honorary that has existed on UNK’s campus for over eighty years. Students plan various activities throughout the year as well as attend and present papers at the national convention. The Carillon, sponsored by Sigma Tau Delta, is edited by students and features creative writing by students.
UNK has an active chapter of Sigma Tau Delta; it hosts events open to all English majors. To learn more, check out the website of the national organization: LINK. For students who have already been inducted as members, take note of the following 2021-2022 deadlines:
September 27, 2021: first call for paper submissions to the national convention scheduled for March 2022 in Atlanta, Georgia (LINK)
October 25, 2021: final deadline for submissions to the national convention
March 30-April 2, 2022: Sigma Tau Delta International Convention
April 2022: scholarship applications are due (LINK)
